Der Weg des Lebens spiegelt sich in den Straßen der Nordstadt – eine große Suche, Umwege, Selbsterkenntnis und schließlich die Befreiung. In einer performativen Soundkarawane erleben Zuschauende und -hörende gemeinsam mit den Protagonist*innen einen Prozess der Transformation. Verlassen wir eine der Unterführungen des Dortmunder Hauptbahnhofs Richtung Norden, spüren wir sofort, dass hier eine ganz besondere Atmosphäre besteht. Andere Geschichten schwirren durch die Luft, andere Duftnoten, andere Klänge. Ein Zug, eine Karawane, eine Prozession mit Musiker*innen, Tänzer*innen und Performer*innen begleitet das Publikum auf den einzelnen Wegabschnitten durch die Nordstadt, ein poetischer Pulk, der auch zufällig Vorbeikommende auf die Reise in vielfältige Klangwelten einlädt.

Geschichten werden von den Sänger*innen des Dortmunder Opernensembles Daegyun Jeong, Wendy Krikken und Mandla Mndebele entlang der Route gemeinsam mit lokalen Akteur*innen, Musikformationen, Bands und DJs in Szene gesetzt, geleitet vom Wunsch, den meditativen Sound der Nordstadt in seiner Diversität zu ergründen und zu einem Ganzen zu verdichten. In musikalischer Vielschichtigkeit werden Minimal Music, Elektrobeats und eine Soundinstallation aus Stimmen miteinander zu einem explosiven Klangteppich verwoben.

Ladenlokale, Kneipen oder Bushaltestellen werden zum Schauplatz unbekannter und unerhörter Dramen und Versöhnungsszenen. Es stellt sich die Frage: Was ist Heimat? Der Dortmunder Hafen, über Kanäle verbunden mit den Wasserstraßen Europas und den Weltmeeren, ist die letzte Station der Nordstadtoper.

Mit der Nordstadtoper setzt sich die Reihe der musiktheatralen Stadtprojekte der Oper Dortmund fort − nach den großen Erfolgen von MusiCircus in der Spielzeit 2018/19 und Sounds of Dortmund der vergangenen Saison.

The path of life is reflected in the streets of Nordstadt - a great search, detours, self-knowledge and finally liberation. In a performative sound caravan, viewers and listeners experience a process of transformation together with the protagonists. When we leave one of the underpasses of Dortmund Central Station heading north, we immediately sense that there is a very special atmosphere here. Other stories buzz through the air, other scents, other sounds. A train, a caravan, a procession with musicians, dancers and performers accompanies the audience on the individual sections of the route through the northern part of the city, a poetic throng that also invites passersby on a journey into diverse sound worlds.

Stories are staged by the singers of the Dortmund Opera Ensemble Daegyun Jeong, Wendy Krikken and Mandla Mndebele along the route together with local actors, music formations, bands and DJs, guided by the desire to bring the meditative sound of the northern part of the city to life in its diversity fathom and condense into a whole. In musical complexity, minimal music, electro beats and a sound installation made up of voices are woven together into an explosive carpet of sound.

Shops, pubs or bus stops become the scene of unknown and outrageous dramas and scenes of reconciliation. The question arises: What is home? The port of Dortmund, connected to the waterways of Europe and the world's oceans via canals, is the last station of the Nordstadtoper.

With the Nordstadtoper the series of music-theatrical city projects of the Oper Dortmund continues − after the great success of MusiCircus in the 2018/19 season and Sounds of Dortmund last season.
