Die Videoarbeit A WOMAN CALLED EARTH (Eine Frau Namens Erde) erzählt die Geschichte einer Frau, die im Boden vergraben ist. Zunächst ist nur eine Nahaufnahme ihres Gesichts, das mit Erde bedeckt ist, zu sehen. Im Laufe des Videos, jedoch kommt sie immer mehr an die Oberfläche, bis sie schließlich aufsteht und ein Loch hinterlässt, indem sie vorher noch vergraben lag. Das Video läuft rückwärts in Zeitlupe, so dass dieser Effekt die Handbewegungen der Frau, die sich ausgräbt, aussehen lässt, als würde etwas oder jemand anderes, nicht sichtbares, sie ausgraben. Die Arbeit handelt von den Momenten, in denen wir als Menschen begraben liegen. Ob wir uns selbst begraben haben oder uns so vorgefunden haben. Manchmal stehen wir konfrontiert mit dem Ende unserer oder einer Existenz inmitten des Leben, als würden wir oder ein Teil von uns vergraben vorfinden. Es scheint als ob in einen Traum versetzt zu sein. Die Arbeit analysiert und personifiziert auf eine poetische Art und Weise die Kraft, die uns aus jener Erde befreit.
The video work A WOMAN CALLED EARTH tells the story of a woman who is buried in the an earthen ground. In the beginning we see a close up of her face covered with earth. In the course of the video she appears on the surface, until she gets up and leaves the hole behind in which she was lying beforehand. The video runs backwards in slow motion, so the movement of the woman's hand, who is excavating herself, seems as if there is a invisible force freeing her from the soil. The work is about moments in which we as humans lye buried. Sometimes we face the end of our or of ones´existence in the middle of life itself, as if being buried alive. The work analyzed and impersonates in a poetic approach the force that pulls us out of the earth back into life.
