Review of Eduard Starcic's film work
By merging several seemingly incompatible worlds into a new universe, Starcic seduces the viewer into a world of constant equilibrium and imbalance and the interval that articulates the flow of daily events. The moments are presented that only exist to underline the human drama, to clarify our existence and to find poetic meaning in everyday life.
By emphasizing aesthetics, he uses a visual and auditory vocabulary that addresses various social, political, and cultural issues. The work includes both space and time - a fictional and experiencable universe that is only created piece by piece. With a poetic and often metaphorical visual language, he deals with the documentation of events and the question of how they can be presented.
His works appear as dream-like images in which fiction and reality meet, meanings shift, past and present merge.
In his works, Starcic wants to increase the astonishment of the viewer by creating compositions or settings that create calm, poetic images that leave traces and balances on the border between recognition and alienation.
Eduard Starcic currently lives and works in Cologne.
